Mr. and Mrs. Munsey
Rev. Howard Munsey
Pastor Emeritus

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

Howard Munsey was born in the shadow of Short Mountain ( Hawkins County, TN ) in 1926 to Albert “Feeler” and Lizzie Munsey. In 1942 he left high school and entered the U.S. Navy. He served both in World War II and during the Korean Conflict, achieving for himself the rank of Petty Officer First Class.

Grace QuartetIt was during his military career that he was awakened to the frailty of life and the mercies of God. Munsey recounts the story of being at sea during a storm in November 1943, when he was nearly tossed overboard during the night watches. While suspended over the ship's side, hanging only by the lifeline above his head, the Lord showed mercy to him by sending another sailor to come to his aid. But still it took nine more years before he called on God and completely surrendered his life to Christ.

It was 1953, under the training of M.L. Bowmen, when Munsey preached his first sermon at the “ Block Church ” in Greeneville ( First FWB Church ). Since that time he has organized two and pastored seven other Free Will Baptist churches. He also has an effective revival and pulpit supply ministry.

Munsey is the founding pastor of PFWBC and currently serves as the president of Berea Ministries Inc., a missions organization he created in the 50s to support the ministry of national pastors in Mexico .

He is married to Mildred, his wife of 60 years. Together they make their home in the Alpha Community of Morristown. They have three children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
