| July 16th has been set as the opening date for the orphanage in Tuxtepec, Oaxaca.
The contracted workers have nearly completed the retaining wall. This wall was needed in order to keep the ground around the buildings from being washed away during the rainy season. After the wall is completed, sod will be brought in and will serve as the home’s first grass. This will make for a nice yard where the children can run and play.
The dining hall will double as an indoor recreation area. It will also serve as a place for the children to have study time. Many of the children have never attended school, due to lack of resources. Our on-staff social worker is already working with the public schools preparing them for acceptance of the children. The school officials realize the challenge that lies before them and our staff will work diligently to help the children adapt to the school setting. For the first time, these children will be given the opportunity to learn how to read, write, and work math problems.
Each dorm will consist of eight sets of bunk beds. The children will have their own bed to sleep in as well as a chest of drawers in which to place their belongings. There is a small living room area in each dorm and the houseparents will use this area to conduct family devotions in the evening.
Houseparent homes are located directly behind the dorms and consist of one room and a bathroom. They will have to take only one step to be inside the dorm. Houseparents will serve just as they do in the United States, working seven days on duty and seven days off. Houseparents have been hired for the girls’ dorm and several couples have made application to work with the boys.
Elias, Project Coordinator, and Pastor Palma are excited about the arrival of the children. They have set July 16, 2007 as the date for bringing the children in. Because of your efforts, thirty-two children will have a wonderful place to live.
